“How Some Of The Dallas Cowboys Players Spend Their Day Off”

With the Pre-season coming to a close and a lot hard work still in store for the upcoming 2010 season, its good to know that several players know how to keep the fans involved & supportive both on and off the field. The players I speak of are Stephen Hodge #55, Jason Williams #58 and Mike Hamlin #36 of Dallas Cowboys.

When Sports Clips owner Chris Loper approached Nina Z. about doing a community signing for the players, she agreed that it would be a great look, but could they fit it in during the pre-season games? Well, they made it happend! Mike, Stephen and Jason reported to the signing location on Sunday, the day after a road game with the Texans and got right to business. Starting off with The Ticket Sports Radio show team, who was there as one of media sponsor. Then came the “tailgating”, from sponsors like Jamba Juice and Jersey Mike Sandwiches providing good treats for the fans. With all the great pre-activities taking place, it made the Dallas heat seem like a day at the beach.

As the crowed approached, the three were quick to get into a defensive state of mind, but all that was changed when the facial expressions showed nothing but smiles for the players and the home team they represent. Cowboys fans young and old, got time in for a whole lot of pictures and signings with the three and of some of the memorable moments that stand out are; Mike Hamlin and his “Daddy Day Care” to Stephen Hodge taking over the Ticket Sports Radio truck.

All in all it was great community activity and everyone who came left with a lifetime of memories.

Mike Hamlin debuts at the 9th annual Reebok Heros Celebrity Baseball Game

“Dallas Cowboys Michael Hamlin Displays His Sports Diversity At The 9TH Annual Reebok Heroes Celebrity Baseball Game”.

Frisco, TX. The Dr. Pepper Baseball Park was the location for the annual event, with the proceeds benefiting the Heroes Foundation and The Mike Modano Foundation.

The summer’s heat didn’t sway the many fans, athletes and celebrities from coming out and being supportive to the day’s activities. Mike Hamlin (FS) for the Dallas Cowboys made his debut at this year’s event, participating on the Blue Sox team, managed this year by Donnie Nelson (Pres. of the Dallas Mavericks). Embracing the challenge of being on a foreign sports field as well as playing against opponents such as Mark Cuban, Jason Kidd, Warren Sapp and Bradie James on the White Sox team, he held his own. No one knew what to expect from Hamlin, would he put up numbers and leave records as he did at Clemson? The answers to those questions were about to unfold in front of the stadium spectators. At his first time up to bat, he resembles one of baseballs great with a directional point to the outfield and connects for a base hit. Not a bad start for someone used to deflecting and intercepting passes on the grid iron field. Mike was still able to served as valuable component for his team. Ending his game play stats for the day, he touched home base twice and made sure they didn't do to much damage to his "left field". The White Sox went on to win this year game and Mike awaits the opportunity to play in another Reebok Heroes event.

The day ended with success for the benefiting organizations, a great time out for the fans and families as well as humanitarian gratification from the organizers and participants.

The Heroes Foundation is a non-profit endeavor which provides opportunities for Dallas inner-city youth. Young people can realize self-confidence as they participate in team baseball and basketball, as well as educational and cultural curriculum's. The fundamentals of baseball and basketball are taught in clinics, instructional leagues, one-on-one training and tournaments. Children and adults with physical and mental health challenges receive training in sports, and participate in competitions.

The Mike Modano Foundation seeks to make a difference in the Dallas Community. Funds are given to agencies who provide education and resources so that families can be healed and the cycle of abuse can be broken.
